Posted By admin On 17/10/17Edit: Mugi released an undub patch for Valkyrie Profile for the PS1. Big thanks to him! You can find the patch file here: Initial post: Hello people, first things first: Im a totally noob regarding this, but i would like to try to undub Tales of Eternia for the PS1. Since nobody seems to work on this instead requesting it in hope that someone will do it, i thought to try it out myself.
Its very likely that i will not succeed, but at least i can say that i tried it. Second, english is not my first langauge, so i apologize now for any mistakes and troubles you all will face by reading my post. Third: Im not asking for a detailed step by step guide, but i would really appreciate if you can assist me, since i dont have any knowledge about hacking at all. Maybe someone can post important links (so that i can read it all by myself), or tell me where to start at all or maybe give me information about what needs to be known when someone is trying to undub a game (especially a PS1 game), that would be great. Im aware that it will be not just replacing the english audio files with the japanese ones and the project is done. Its a huge project (at least for me) and i dont really know where to start, which tools i need, which information are relevant and so on. Please bear with me that im a totally noob (as mentioned above) so i could ask 'dumb' (maybe to you) questions. Thanks for any help. I can see why with Eternia at least, because the other PS1 tales games are undubbed. From the one's I've seen there are notable undubs for different reasons: 1. In Wild Arms 2 they just nixed the audio outright overseas, so it's more of a restoration project.
Star Ocean 2 was bad in the voice department, to me it was a cluster of wut whenever you had a battle with a lot of people. But undubbed actually isn't that much better IMO, because the main problem with it is how the voices are done in battle. I was googling hacking tools for this game after reading this thread and a text-only Brazilian-Portuguese fan-translation for VP1 that was released last year came up in the search results.
This should already let you relax a bit because that means people have already managed to manipulate VP1's resources, which are all stored into one big compressed file. Links: (in Portuguese) A forum post: Some tools by one of the posters in the link above (in French): This one's interesting because it talks about having Japanese voices in the game. Decompression tools available right here on RHDN: RHDN post: Plus this guy's blog post about VP1's encryption (in English): I'd say don't be a stranger and contact the fan-translators and tool makers right away so you can get your undub project started.
Thanks for the answers. Im in the middle of reading some stuff right now. I will see what i can do.
@Kallisto: I dont hate these undubs, but i prefer just the japanese ones. But not in all games the voice acting is inferior than the japanese one. For example: I like the voice acting done in Metal Gear, Star Ocean 2 (maybe nostalgia is speaking here, but i like it) and also Valkyrie Profile, just to name some for the PS1.
So these are done really good. But i find the japanese voices in Valkyrie Profile better though and thats why i would like to have an undub. But with Tales of Eternia, the english ones are just bad.
Especially when it comes to combat! The english voice acting is so emotionless and i find the battles in an RPG the most important thing, especially if the developers are providing voice acting. Sorry for my english.
Here is some more information on ripping audio from PSX games If you are trying to rip music, sound effects, or movies from PS1 games I hope I can help you here. First, music get PsxMC here: It's best for getting music, sence you can change the freq. To 44.1k for the.wav files. (there is a password out there somewhere for the non-free version.but it was lost with my last how to thread). You can also try PSMplay (here: ), there are 2 versions of this program, both the old and new versions have +/. Last is PSound here: It scans through all sounds on the disc, meaning you can listen to sound efx's and sample's from PSF! You can't make PSF's with it, just listen to each individual instrument.
You can also get these programs here: If you get PSMplay working you should be able to rip the.str movies easily, thus I provide the STR decoder for TMPGEnc so you can convert them stright to an mpg movie like they were origenaly encoded, if you don't want to make. Kings Of Leon Only By The Night Rar. avi files. Put it in your TMPGEnc directory. You could also just use EAC for getting redbook audio stright from the game (Like JetMoto or Wipeout games). Also use Lame for converting your new wav's to mp3 =) (see moguta's faq). Isn't in japanese.
