I hadn't noticed until I came across from frequent contributor Gerry Cornell that Microsoft considers [some?] desktop gadgets to be a security risk and has removed all gadgets from its website. Gadgets that have already been downloaded and installed, along with those that came with Windows 7, apparently remain 'installed'. But some have become inoperative. That is, some Windows 7 gadgets -- the Clock in particular -- just disappear from one's desktop.

Gerry speculated that a recent security update disabled the Windows 7 Clock gadget as a potential risk. I've also noticed that although a weather gadget remains, its visual appearance has been changed. Or perhaps the old weather gadget has been replaced by a new one. I started this discussion because I then noticed that you can 'View list of running gadgets' (this is supposedly somewhere in Control Panel, but I can't see it there -- it shows up if you search 'Gadget').

The list shows 'Clock' as still running -- even though it doesn't display. Death By Degrees Ps2 Iso Torrent. And if you repeatedly attempt to add the Clock gadget to your desktop, the list of running gadgets shows multiple instances of Clock running.

If the Clock gadget was disabled because MS considers it to be a security risk, why is it still running in the background even though it isn't displaying? Isn't now just a hidden -- and therefore worse -- risk? Although I haven't drilled down too deeply, you can see the amount of memory assigned to sidebar.exe increase and decrease depending on whether 'Clock 1.0.0.0' is running or not.

If Clock is the only gadget that has been dragged to the Desktop (even though it doesn't show), sidebar.exe continues to run. When Clock is then 'removed' from the Desktop by using 'View list of running gadgets,' sidebar.exe closes. This has nothing to do with the general deprecation of gadgets on security grounds. The recent problems with gadgets seem to be linked to the upgrade of Internet Explorer to v.11. This version of the browser seems to be particularly sensitive to display options, and if the screen DPI is set to anything other than 100%, some things - including gadgets - may be prone to display faults.

Use display options in Control Panel to reset the screen DPI to 100% to test this hypothesis. If your gadgets are resurrected, you'll have to decide which is more important - higher DPI or functioning gadgets. Mine all work properly at 105% DPI. You could also uninstall the IE11 update to restore your previous version pending a potential improvement in a later update. There's plenty of, so this thread might just as well stay here to spread the message.

I've never had a problem with sidebar gadgets. When I first read on the Microsoft website 'Gadgets are no longer available on our website because the Windows Sidebar platform in Windows 7 and Windows Vista has 'serious vulnerabilities.' That came as I surprise to me.

Also, I'm trying to avoid IE 11 at all costs because of dozens of compatibility issues and the 32-bit tab glitch, so I probably wouldn't have noticed any IE/sidebar issues. But, I just went ahead and applied the fixit to my PC since 3 other win7 PCs in the house also have the weather gadget for my town, which is the only gadget I have actually used. (that doesn't mean I haven't tried the other ones included in Windows, although I never downloaded any gadgets). This Has Nothing to Do with IE 11 or Software Update I have IE 11 and all recent updates installed yet all the built in gadgets work properly have you ever checked if the gadget feature is on the program and features in the control panel? scan your computer for malware maybe that Is the reason.
